Why Chronova
What You Get That Others Don't Offer
There are faster options and cheaper options. Here's what happens when you choose a studio that puts the work first.
Back to HomeCore Advantages
Six Reasons Clients Return
Each of these is something Chronova does as a matter of practice, not as a selling point invented for a website.
Swiss-Trained Watchmaker On Site
The person who opens your watch trained in the Vallée de Joux region. That's the foundation everything else rests on.
Everything Done In-House
Nothing is forwarded elsewhere. Your watch stays at this bench, under this watchmaker's hands, from intake to handback.
Written Report with Every Job
A plain-language summary of findings and work done, included without asking. Something to refer back to next service.
Honest Cost Conversations
If a repair doesn't make sense relative to the piece's value, that's said plainly. You decide what happens next.
Period-Appropriate Parts for Vintage Work
For older pieces, we source components that match the original specification — not whatever happens to be available.
Timing Machine Verification Included
All mechanical work is verified on a calibrated timing machine. The numbers are part of your written summary.
Expertise
The Knowledge Behind the Bench
Watchmaking at this level isn't a trade you pick up in a short course. Understanding how a lever-escapement interacts with a balance wheel, or recognising the specific lubrication requirements of a 1960s Longines calibre, comes from years of hands-on work — and from having trained in a place where that knowledge is taken seriously.
Krit Phromnak, the studio's master watchmaker, spent four years in western Switzerland before returning to Thailand. That background shapes how every job at Chronova is approached, regardless of the service tier.
Equipment
Proper Tools for the Work
A watchmaker is only as precise as the equipment available. The studio uses professional-grade workshop tools: a timing machine that measures rate accuracy in six positions, an ultrasonic parts cleaner, and a water-resistance tester for pieces with sealed cases.
These aren't items that appear on a service invoice — they're part of the standard process. The timing machine results go into your written report at no additional cost.
Client Experience
Communication Without the Run-Around
We know waiting for news about a watch you care about is frustrating. Chronova operates with a dedicated client liaison who keeps you informed at each stage — when your piece arrives on the bench, when the assessment is complete, and when it's ready to collect.
If something unexpected comes up mid-service, you'll hear about it before any additional work proceeds.

What Only Chronova Does
Our Distinctive Approach
The Service History Document
Each Chronova client receives a running service history document that covers every visit — a record that travels with the watch and adds to its story over time. We've seen nothing quite like this at other shops in the region.
Pre-Work Accuracy Baseline
Before any mechanical work begins, we record the movement's current rate on the timing machine. That baseline lets us show you measurably what changed — not just claim that it runs better now.
Thai and English Throughout
All communication, reports, and estimates are available in both languages. For expatriate clients and international visitors to Chiang Mai, that's not always something other workshops can offer comfortably.
Multi-Day Accuracy Observation on Overhauls
Heritage pieces aren't declared finished after one test position. The movement is observed across multiple days and positions before we consider the job complete — the kind of patience that's hard to schedule at volume-driven shops.
